A man who allegedly was with the man charged with killing University of Connecticut football Jasper Howard, has pleaded not guilty to a conspiracy charge. Twenty-year-old Hakim Muhammad entered the plea Friday in Rockville Superior Court on a charge of conspiracy to commit assault. Prosecutors say Muhammad, of Bloomfield, Conn., and his friend and co-worker, 21-year-old John William Lomax III, were involved in a minor altercation with others outside a university sanctioned dance early Oct. 18.  

DaJuane Collins ran for two touchdowns, and Morgan Williams rushed for another to lead Toledo to a 47-21 win over Eastern Michigan on Friday night. Williams finished with 155 yards rushing and one touchdown for the Rockets (5-6, 3-4 Mid-American Conference), while Collins rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns. In the second quarter, Alex Johnson recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, putting the Rockets up, 16-0, with 13:13 left.  

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson agreed Friday to a one-year extension of his contract, which now runs through 2016. before the 2008 season. The school gave him a new seven-year, $17.7 million deal after he led the Yellow Jackets to a surprising nine wins in his debut. His second year has been even better.

Signed Georgia Tech football coach Paul Johnson agreed Friday to a one-year extension of his contract, which now runs through 2016. •The Green Bay Packers signed former Kalispell (Mont.) Flathead High and Central Washington quarterback Mike Reilly to their practice squad. •Pitcher John Grabow became the first of the 171 free agents to reach agreement on a new deal, getting a $7.5 million, two-year contract from the Chicago Cubs. Fined Baltimore Ravens defensive end Dwan Edwards plans to appeal the $  

The deal could be announced as soon as Monday, according to a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not commented. Vizquel, who will be 43 in April, has played 21 major-league seasons. Last year, he was in a utility role with the Texas Rangers, playing shortstop, third base and second base while appearing in 62 games.  

We do not take Georgia Tech lightly in this little corner of the journalism world. In fact, this is where Paul Johnson's strategically unique Yellow Jackets were picked to win the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference championship -- way back in December of 2008. But Clemson today with a victory over Virginia will clinch a spot in the ACC Championship Game and put itself in sweet revenge position to win its first ACC title in 18 full years.  

Mary "Zuggie" F. (Musumano) Masi, wife of James Masi, Jr. of Plainville, a long-time resident of Burlington, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Hartford Hospital. Mary was born Aug. 15, 1937, in Bristol, daughter of the late Patsy and Julia (Allawatt) Musumano. Zuggie was a wonderful woman, with a huge heart.  

The Fort Payne High School wrestling team enjoyed big success in dual matches last season, winning 32 of 35. It was more of the same Thursday night as the Wildcats opened their 2009-10 campaign. Second-year head coach Greg Jefcoat's squad picked up eight pins and defeated visiting Huntsville 51-24.  

A notorious juggler of lines and lineups, UW men's hockey coach Mike Eaves is going with the same 18 skaters for the third straight game Friday night in a WCHA series opener with St. Cloud State at the National Hockey Center.
